Coyote Buttes is perhaps the most amazing few square miles of land in the world. It is located about thirty miles north of Page, Arizona. Only ten people per day are allowed in this natural treasure you can be one of the ten by lottery only conducted on a daily basis for the following day at the Paria Ranger station. This desert area has land that looks like it was painted. You walk on swirls of colors. Coyote Buttes is made up of many petrified sand dunes, and erosion has caused the sandstone in this area to form into the shape of teepees. The highlight of this wilderness area is a sandstone formation called “The Wave”, which has to be seen to be believed that nature can create such a thing of beauty. It is perhaps the most incredible quarter acre of land on this planet. I will make a warning though, coyote Buttes has no trails or markings, it is very possible, in fact easy to get lost. This is also a desert; bring more water than you think you will need. You might need it.
